This is a start of the information that I would like to include on this website. There are many more branches of the Winterer family that is not represented here and I would like to invite all that are interested to submit their information for inclusion on this site. The above should be a set of links that may someday be joined into a single large family tree.

Please note that I am new to the study and research of genealogy and there will most likely be mistakes in the listings of ancestors here. If I have left out people or included people incorrectly please let me know and I will endeavor to make those corrections.

The links above use the CGI perl scripts created by Randy Winch which use GEDCOM files directly. You can either submit them in GEDCOM format or in most other formats. I will also accept hard copy of family trees, although that may take longer to get converted by me. I am using Family Tree Maker 7.x to maintain the genealogies.

Calculating the Cousin Relationship
Find the common ancestor, count the generations down both branches, subtract one from each, the shortest is the first number (nth cousin), the difference between the two is the removed (nth times removed).

Example:
Otto Winterer
Henry Winterer Edward Winterer
Lawrence Winterer Horace Winterer Sr.
Tony Winterer Horace Winterer Jr.
  Bob Winterer
In the example above the common ancestor is Otto. Counting generations down to Tony, we have 3 (Henry, Lawrence, Tony), counting down to Bob, we have 4 (Edward, Horace Sr., Horace Jr., Bob). Substract 1 from each and we have 2 and 3. The difference between 2 and 3 is 1. Therefore Bob and Tony are 2nd cousins, once removed.
